The first V5 template theme has finally been added. Bluescan is a conversion of a theme I created about two years previously for Associate-O-Matic. The customer had a mockup of what he (or his client) wanted, and I built the site to match it as closely as possible. In the end they decided for whatever reason not to go with it. But I had an understanding that if they did so, I would be allowed to use the theme. In the rollup to V5, this seemed like a good choice to start with, and to learn about the new templating system for AOM.
Probably the hardest part was converting the table structure of my earlier design into CSS; call me old-fashioned, but I still think HTML tables can be a lot more design-friendly than <div> tags, in certain circumstances. Certainly browser compliance seems easier at times! I may never get all the IE bugs worked out, but it does look gorgeous in FireFox and Chrome. It also has a full set of buttons (Add to Cart, Select Options, etc.) for all the current Amazon locales (US, UK, Canada, France, Germany and Japan). The Search button will also change with each locale.
At any rate, it’s the first of (hopefully) many more.
